چکیده
This paper analyzes the end uses—food, feed, fiber, fuel, and exports—of biomass production in U.S. 1997, 2002, 2007, 2012. They are also analyzed at state level Biomass is measured as human appropriation of net primary (HANPP), an ecological footprint carbon fixed through photosynthesis, derived from data on crop, timber grazing yields. HANPP was allocated to uses using publicly available sources Department Agriculture internet-based publishing agricultural trade. 717–834 megatons (MT) per year, which comprised 515–615 MT crop-based, 105–149 timber-based, 64–76 grazed HANPP. Livestock feed commanded largest proportion, but decreased 395 (50%) 305 (42%) all 320 240 (58–44%) crop-based The proportion exports stable 118–141 (17–18%) total 112–133 (21–23%) Biofiber 141 (18%) 97 (13%) Biofuel increased strongly 11 98 MT, 1% 14% 2% 18% HANPP, surpassing food biofiber by Direct 89–105 lowest 12–13% 17–18% highly fertile Midwest drought-prone Intermountain West stand out regions where a very small percentage direct food. high proportions nonfood consistent with tragedy ecosystem services commodification nature frameworks. Reducing these presents opportunities for improving services, security, well-being.

Sequence-based breeding; application to unravel traits of the 6F crops: food, feed, fiber, flowers, fuel and fun
The genomes of the world’s most important crop species differ enormously in size, ploidy levels, repeat composition and germplasm diversity, posing a tremendous challenge to utilize them for breeding and trait improvement. Keygene’s Crop Genome Center addresses this challenge by developing and applying sequence-based methodologies to advance building genome assemblies and elucidating genetic di...
متن کاملCorn ethanol production, food exports, and indirect land use change.
The approximately 100 million tonne per year increase in the use of corn to produce ethanol in the U.S. over the past 10 years, and projections of greater future use, have raised concerns that reduced exports of corn (and other agricultural products) and higher commodity prices would lead to land-use changes and, consequently, negative environmental impacts in other countries. The concerns have...

US Firm Exports and Intellectual Property Rights
How do intellectual property rights (IPR) policies a¤ect international trade? In this paper we consider two of the central results from the model of Lin (2013) (i) that IPR reforms should expand the range of goods exported to a country through the extensive margin of trade and (ii) rms with more newly developed products should be more sensitive to IPR policies than other innovative rms. Build...
